Recording Session for “Great Escape”
Preproduction update 002
Really pumped about recent recording progress. Wrote the framework to a new song Tuesday night that’s really sexy, cool. Amazing how fast drums, bass, guitar, and vocal melody all came together. Hour and a half tops and perfectly in line with the direction I want the sound to go.
Not sure who the new sound is similar to… Worried a bit that it sounds like typical me, if that makes sense. Been typical me for too long, need to grow. Seems at least an evolutionary step and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I picked up from working with James Paul Wisner. No matter what, I’m enjoying myself.
Written quite a bit, but am satisfied with roughly four pieces to far. “Joyrider” is complete in terms of parts and is really shaping up. Might post a rough demo of it once I record some better guitar takes and smooth out the mix. Drums are a little stale, too, but hey, it is the rough demo stage…
Preproduction Update 001
Fighting a demanding day job schedule to write and record, but all things considered, I’m pretty damn happy. Tired, but happy. September is rapidly approaching, however, so I need to ramp up the pace. Somehow.
Songs are often written bass first, guitar last which has really turned my writing on its head. Not sure which I’d play live… maybe both? Vocals are purposely low and sexy. Guitar is daring, energetic. Lyrics? Well, yeah, they’re still leaning towards the dark side, but there’s a lot more emphasis on melody and I’m making a serious effort to not be so serious. Let’s see how that goes.
More soon.
